Whether it's rockets, planes or magic carpets, mankind has always been fascinated with flying. One glance at a hawk’s effortless movement through space and we are green with envy and fat with desire. We have all dreamed of bodily flight and not merely levitation and floating but actual movement through space with just the merest intention.

According to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique to the world, the ability for the human body to move at will in the air, is possible. How? By accessing and utilizing the same laws and principles of nature that allow the planets and other galactic bodies to hang, float and move through space.

At present the silent, self-referral techniques of the TM-Sidhi program, including Yogic Flying, allow the body to spontaneously lift up in short hops. And although practitioners of the Yogic Flying technique are not levitating, it is a real possibility.

There are a significant number of historically documented accounts of levitation performed by sages and saints, of many traditions, throughout the centuries. Religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam have all reported incidents of levitation. Numerous accounts of levitation have also come from the Christian tradition.

There have been more than 200 Catholic Saints who have been said to have the ability to levitate. Some of these include: St. Edmund, then Archbishop of Canterbury circa 1242, St. Teresa of Avila in Madrid during 1680, Sister Mary an Arabian Carmelite nun in Bethlehem circa 1700, St. Adolphus Liguori in Foggia during 1777 and Father Suarez at Santa Cruz in Southern Argentina in 1911.

One of the most notable reports of levitation concerned St. Joseph of Copertino, born in 1603 in Apulia Italy. After 22 years of ascetic behavior to achieve a state of religious ecstasy, he reportedly managed to levitate. At one point a prayer-induced state resulted in him being transported through the air and across the altar during a Mass. Pope Urbain VIII was reportedly quite taken aback when St. Joseph of Copertino floated a few feet above the ground in front of him. It is also reported that St. Joseph managed to levitate more than a hundred times before his death in 1663 when he was canonized by the church because of his unique ability.

The Maharishi Effect

Scientific research studies show another extraordinary phenomenon, the group effect of Yogic Flying. Extensive research has documented that large groups of Yogic Flyers (particularly the square root of one percent of the surrounding population) creates a measurable, positive influence in the environment. The larger the group, the wider the sphere of influence, and the more pronounced the effect.

This coherence-creating influence, termed the Maharishi Effect, can lower stress and negativity levels in the near and far environment. Research shows it can reduce crime, sickness, accidents, inflation and unemployment. Even terrorism and war deaths have been reduced by the Maharishi Effect.
